How To Request a Travel Signature

Travel Signature Requirements
Internationals students/scholars are required to have a travel signature on their I-20/DS-2019 in order to re-enter the United States. Only Designated School Officials (F-1)/Responsible Officers (J-1) at the International Programs Office are permitted to sign the I-20/DS-2019 for travel. At UT, these are your International Student and Scholar Advisors. The signature is located on the bottom of page 2 of the I-20 and at the bottom right corner of page 1 of the DS-2019.

Travel signatures are valid for one year (6 months if you are on F-1 OPT or J-1 Academic Training) so please check your most recent I-20/DS-2019 before requesting a new signature.

Make sure to keep all previously issued I-20/DS-2019 for your records as you may need them for future immigration benefits.

Updated Instructions for Requesting Travel Signature
A form I-20/DS-2019 is NOT required to depart the US. A valid I-20/DS-2019 with a valid travel signature is required for re-entry only.

You have two options for requesting a new travel signature:

Option One
File a Reprint/Revised/Travel Signature I-20 request, on your international student portal. Upload the required documents to ensure you are good to go. The new signed I-20 will be available to download from your Request & Document Center. You must then print the I-20 and sign and date it.

Option Two (least recommended)
Bring your most recent original Form I-20/DS-2019 to Plant Hall room 300 for a travel signature. Bring your valid passport and visa with you to ensure their validity. If a DSO is available it will be signed right away.

Note: Form DS-2019 and Form I-20 are not allowed to be sent via email for security reasons.
